چکیده

It has been proposed that Oligo-Miocene regional uplift of Madagascar was generated and is maintained by mantle dynamical processes. Expressions include flat-lying Upper Cretaceous-Paleogene marine limestones crop out at elevations hundreds meters along the western seaboard emergent Quaternary coral-rich terraces rim coastline. Here, we explore history subcrustal topographic support through a combined analysis four sets observational constraints. First, exploit published receiver function estimates crustal thickness spectral admittance between gravity topography. An value ∼+40 ± 10 mGal km−1 wavelengths >500 km implies ∼1 topography supported Secondly, new apatite fission-track helium measurements from 18 basement samples are inverted, constraining temperature denudation histories. Results suggest 0.5–1.6 occurred after ∼30 Ma. Thirdly, calculate minimizing misfit observed calculated longitudinal river profiles. during Neogene times. Finally, inverse modeling rare earth element concentrations in mafic rocks indicates melting asthenospheric source depths ≤65 with potential temperatures 1300–1370 °C. Melting higher beneath Réunion Island northern lower Comores southern Madagascar. These inferences consistent shear wave velocities obtained tomographic models. We conclude underlain thinned lithospheric thermal anomaly lies within an layer

dynamic coloring of graph

Isostasy, flexure, and dynamic topography

Article history: Received 12 January 2016 Received in revised form 26 May 2016 Accepted 27 May 2016 Available online 31 May 2016 A fundamental scientific question is, what controls the Earth's topography? Although the theoretical principles of isostasy, flexure, and dynamic topography arewidely discussed, the parameters needed to apply these principles are frequently not available. Isostatic fa...

Mechanical food properties and dental topography differentiate three populations of Lemur catta in southwest Madagascar.

Determining the proximate causes of tooth wear remains a major focus of dental study. Here we compare the diets of three ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta) populations and examine how different dietary components may contribute to patterns of wear-related tooth shape. Casts were made from dental impressions collected between 2003 and 2010 from lemurs in the gallery and spiny/mixed forests of the B...

Mean dynamic topography: inter-comparisons and errors.

Knowledge of the ocean dynamic topography, defined as the height of the sea surface above its rest-state (the geoid), would allow oceanographers to study the absolute circulation of the ocean and determine the associated geostrophic surface currents that help to regulate the Earth's climate. Here a novel approach to computing a mean dynamic topography (MDT), together with an error field, is pre...
